Sundog is run by husband and wife James Vriend and Jenny Berkenbosch. We have two boys, Silas and Eli, and are thrilled with the upcoming birth of our third babe sometime near the end of 2011.
James grew up in a farming family and learned how to grow food, fix tractors, and build things sort of by osmosis. James is passionate about growing healthy, vibrant food and really enjoys planting and tending our vegetables. Jenny enjoys the harvesting part of farming the most and loves going to market each week with our produce to meet with customers and other farmers. She is excited to try teaching her kids at home and during the off-season also spends time making art.
We have been in operation since 2009 and for the first two growing years used borrowed land from James’s folks. In 2011 we moved to our own10 acre piece of land north east of Edmonton. It has wonderful soil and access to irrigation water and we feel humbly blessed to be able to live and work in this spot.
We are certified organic growers. Our produce is currently in transition to becoming organic because it is being grown on land that was not organically farmed prior to our ownership. We are totally committed to organic farming practices and we look forward to building the health and vitality of our piece of earth.
